Project Summary

The current Mallacoota Skate Park is constructed of prefabricated steel ramps on a concrete slab, typical of early 1990s designs. It does not meet current industry standards and some of the park components are deteriorating and rusting, exposing sharp edges and dangerous corners. It also suffers from drainage issues, which cause slippery surfaces and pooling water (which also harbours mosquitos).

There is little shade, which means the exposed steel sections are very hot in summer and the metal is noisy, creating noise pollution problems for neighbours and local businesses.

The new skate park for Mallacoota comes after a devastating bushfire and the impact of COVID-19. Local organisations, individuals and businesses have come together as a result to support the town’s recovery by investing in infrastructure that lifts community spirit.
